A new and exciting month is upon us, with many activities, events and news for you, but first we want to take a moment to thank the YES Prep alumni and staff who have served in the military. We are grateful for your service and the example you set for our students. 

This month’s Family Update includes several important reminders and announcements for families. You will find information about student enrollment, the YES Prep Cares Community Recovery Fair, attendance expectations before the holiday breaks, and key academic and college readiness updates for our secondary students. Attendance & Upcoming Breaks

As we approach the holiday season, we want to emphasize the importance of consistent student attendance. To help students finish the semester strong, please schedule appointments during district holiday breaks whenever possible. 

If an appointment must occur on a school day, please schedule it early in the morning so your child can return by 9:45 a.m. or later in the afternoon to maximize learning time. 

Student holidays are: 

• Nov. 24–28 
• Dec. 8 
• Dec. 22–Jan. 6 

If your child is absent, you must submit the required documentation to excuse the absence. Thank you for partnering with us to prioritize learning!

Todos Families United Summit – THANK YOU! 

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Inaugural Todos Families United  Summit! Your presence, your voices, and your commitment to learning and advocating for your communities made this event so special. We are grateful for your energy, your partnership, and the work you do every day to support our campuses. Together, we are building stronger schools and stronger communities. We look forward to seeing all next Fall!

Secondary Common Assessments – December 3-5  

All 6th-12th grade students will have Common Assessments from December 3–5 in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages courses. These assessments are an important part of our academic program because they measure how well students have mastered key concepts taught this semester. The results help teachers identify strengths and areas for growth, ensuring students receive the support they need to succeed. 

Each assessment is worth 10% of a student’s semester grade in the course, so preparation through studying and attendance the week of December 1st is essential. Teachers will be reviewing on December 1st and 2nd in preparation for the assessments.   

Please make sure your student is present, prepared, and ready to do their best. Encourage good sleep, a healthy breakfast, and timely arrival each day.

Final Senior SAT Scores published by College Board 

Seniors who took the SAT on October 16 should have received their test scores on November 6, 2025, in their College Board accounts. Parents, we encourage you to have your student log in so you can review their scores together. 

Students can meet with their college counselor to discuss what their scores mean. Counselors can also help decide whether applying to college test-optional (without test scores) is the best choice, depending on how well the scores reflect your student’s strengths. 

If your student earned a 480 or higher in Reading and Writing and a 530 or higher in Math on any SAT, they have earned a Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exemption. This means they do not need to take a placement test when enrolling at Texas colleges. They can start in College Algebra and College Rhetoric, or even higher-level courses if they have passed an AP Exam such as AP English Literature or AP Statistics. 

Students who did not meet these scores will have the opportunity to take the TSIA2 placement test at YES Prep to support their transition to college. YES Prep will offer the TSIA2 English in December and Math in the spring semester.

Support Your Senior Complete Texas College Bridge 

Texas College Bridge (TCB) is an online program that helps students strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills before starting college. Students who complete the English and/or Math Texas College Bridge courses with a passing score earn a Texas Success Initiative (TSI) exemption—the same exemption students can earn through the SAT. This exemption is recognized by colleges that partner with TCB, such as Houston City College and schools within the Texas A&M University System. 

Texas College Bridge also serves as test preparation for the TSIA2, which is accepted at all Texas colleges, even those that do not partner directly with TCB. 

YES Prep seniors who have not yet earned a TSI exemption will complete Texas College Bridge in Senior Seminar with support from their teachers and college counselors. Students are currently working on Texas College Bridge English this quarter. Families can help by encouraging students to stay on track and practice TCB lessons at home if they fall behind.

FAFSA Reminders

Last month, we shared an update that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) opened on October 1, 2025.  
 
As of November 1st, over 50% of YES Prep Families have already submitted to the FAFSA or TASFA.  If you have completed the FAFSA with your son or daughter, congratulations, this is a big step forward towards their college applications and graduating.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to complete the FAFSA and/or TASFA, your child’s college counselor is here to support you. If you need assistance, contact your child’s college counselor.  Campuses are continuing to offer some financial aid nights in November and are also setting up individual meetings as needed with families.

2026 Commencement Activities 

We are excited to announce the dates for Commencement for the Class of 2026! The 2026 Commencement Ceremonies will take place from Thursday, May 28 to Sunday, May 31. Please access our dedicated Commencement webpage at HERE to view dates, times and see past commencement ceremonies. 

Information for programs will be shared with seniors, families and staff through Senior Seminar class closer to the event date. We are looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2026!

YES Prep Alumni Scholarship

We are proud to continue supporting our students on their journeys after graduation. Last year, YES Prep awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to help alumni achieve their college and career goals.  

The YES Prep Alumni Scholarship Application is now open for the class of 2026 and will close on 12/2/2025. Seniors can apply for all scholarships they qualify for by completing one application in their Senior Seminar class. The link to the application will be provided directly by their College Counselor.  

Families: We encourage you to check in with your students to ensure they review scholarship requirements and take the time to submit thoughtful, quality applications by the deadline.  

We are excited to learn more about each student’s story and future plans!

EmpowerU

YES Prep will be hosting our first-ever leadership conference, EmpowerU, for students in 6th-8th grade. This will be an opportunity for aspiring leaders to learn about what it takes to get ready for high school, discovering the leader in themselves, using their leadership skills to empower others, and how to effectively communicate. The sessions will be led by our high school students on the District Student Advisory Council.

EmpowerU will be Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. -2:30 p.m. at Southside Secondary. Interested students should reach out to their campus chaperone.

Asistencia y Próximos Recesos 

A medida que se acerca la temporada navideña, queremos enfatizar la importancia de mantener una asistencia estudiantil constante. Para ayudar a los estudiantes a cerrar el semestre con éxito, le pedimos que, siempre que sea posible, programe las citas durante los recesos escolares del distrito. 

Si una cita debe realizarse en un día escolar, le recomendamos programarla temprano en la mañana para que su hijo pueda regresar antes de las 9:45 a.m., o bien más tarde por la tarde, a fin de maximizar el tiempo de aprendizaje. 

Días festivos para los estudiantes: 

24–28 de noviembre 
8 de diciembre 
22 de diciembre al 6 de enero 

Si su hijo falta a clases, debe entregar la documentación requerida para justificar la ausencia. ¡Gracias por colaborar con nosotros para dar prioridad al aprendizaje!

Cumbre Todos Familias Unidas – ¡GRACIAS! 

Agradecemos a todas las familias que se unieron a nosotros en nuestra Cumbre Inaugural de Todos Familias Unidas. Su presencia, sus voces y su compromiso con el aprendizaje y la defensa de sus comunidades hicieron que este evento fuera muy especial. 

Estamos agradecidos por su energía, su colaboración y el trabajo que realizan cada día para apoyar a nuestros campus. Juntos estamos construyendo escuelas y comunidades más fuertes. ¡Esperamos verlos a todos el próximo otoño!

Evaluaciones Comunes de Secundaria – del 3 al 5 de diciembre

Todos los estudiantes de 6.º a 12.º grado realizarán las Evaluaciones Comunes del 3 al 5 de diciembre en las materias de Inglés, Matemáticas, Ciencias, Estudios Sociales y Lenguas del Mundo. 

Estas evaluaciones son una parte importante de nuestro programa académico, ya que miden qué tan bien los estudiantes han dominado los conceptos clave enseñados durante el semestre. Los resultados ayudan a los maestros a identificar fortalezas y áreas de crecimiento, asegurando que los estudiantes reciban el apoyo necesario para tener éxito. 

Cada evaluación representa el 10% de la calificación semestral de la materia, por lo que es fundamental prepararse estudiando y asistir la semana del 1 de diciembre. Los maestros repasarán los contenidos los días 1 y 2 de diciembre para apoyar a los estudiantes. 

Por favor, asegúrese de que su hijo esté presente, preparado y listo para dar lo mejor de sí. Fomente un buen descanso, un desayuno saludable y la llegada puntual cada día.

Puntajes Finales del SAT para Seniors Publicados por College Board  

Los estudiantes de último año (12vo grado) que tomaron el SAT el 16 de octubre debieron haber recibido sus puntajes el 6 de noviembre de 2025 en sus cuentas de College Board. Padres de familia, les recomendamos pedir a sus hijos que inicien sesión para que puedan revisar los resultados juntos. 

Los estudiantes pueden reunirse con su consejero universitario para hablar sobre lo que significan sus puntajes. Los consejeros también pueden ayudar a decidir si aplicar a universidades sin incluir los resultados del examen (opción test-optional) es la mejor decisión, dependiendo de qué tan bien reflejen los puntajes las fortalezas de su hijo. 

Si su estudiante obtuvo un 480 o más en Lectura y Escritura y un 530 o más en Matemáticas en cualquier SAT, ha obtenido una exención del Texas Success Initiative (TSI). Esto significa que no necesita presentar un examen de ubicación al inscribirse en universidades de Texas. Puede comenzar directamente en cursos como Álgebra Universitaria o Retórica Universitaria, o incluso en cursos de nivel superior si aprobó un Examen AP, como AP English Literature o AP Statistics.

Apoye a su Estudiante de Último Año a Completar Texas College Bridge

Texas College Bridge (TCB) es un programa en línea que ayuda a los estudiantes a fortalecer sus habilidades de lectura, escritura y matemáticas antes de comenzar la universidad. Los estudiantes que completan los cursos de inglés y/o matemáticas de Texas College Bridge con una calificación aprobatoria obtienen una exención del Texas Success Initiative (TSI), la misma exención que se puede obtener mediante el SAT. Esta exención es reconocida por universidades asociadas con TCB, como Houston Community College y las instituciones del Sistema Universitario Texas A&M. 

Texas College Bridge también sirve como preparación para el examen TSIA2, el cual es aceptado por todas las universidades de Texas, incluso aquellas que no están asociadas directamente con el programa TCB. 

Los estudiantes de último año de YES Prep que aún no hayan obtenido una exención TSI completarán Texas College Bridge durante su clase de Seminario de Seniors, con el apoyo de sus maestros y consejeros universitarios. Actualmente, los estudiantes están trabajando en Texas College Bridge English durante este trimestre.

Recordatorios sobre FAFSA/TAFSA

El mes pasado compartimos que la Solicitud Gratuita de Ayuda Federal para Estudiantes (FAFSA) y la Solicitud de Ayuda Estatal de Texas (TASFA) abrieron el 1 de octubre de 2025. 

Hasta el 1 de noviembre, más del 50% de las familias de YES Prep ya habían enviado su FAFSA o TASFA. 

Si usted ya completó la FAFSA con su hijo o hija, ¡felicidades!, este es un gran paso hacia la solicitud universitaria y la graduación. 

Si aún no ha tenido la oportunidad de completarla, el consejero universitario de su hijo está disponible para apoyarle. Los campus seguirán ofreciendo noches de ayuda financiera durante noviembre, además de reuniones individuales según sea necesario.

Actividades de Graduación 2026 

¡Nos complace anunciar las fechas de las ceremonias de graduación para la Clase de 2026! 

Las ceremonias de graduación se llevarán a cabo del jueves 28 de mayo al domingo 31 de mayo de 2026. Puede acceder a nuestra página oficial de graduaciones en AQUI, para consultar fechas, horarios y grabaciones de ceremonias anteriores. 

La información específica sobre los programas se compartirá con los seniors, las familias y el personal a través de la clase Senior Seminar, más cerca de la fecha del evento.

Becas para Exalumnos de YES Prep 

Nos enorgullece seguir apoyando a nuestros estudiantes en sus caminos después de la graduación. 

El año pasado, YES Prep otorgó más de $300,000 en becas para ayudar a nuestros exalumnos a alcanzar sus metas académicas y profesionales. 

La Solicitud de Becas para Exalumnos de YES Prep ya está abierta para la Clase de 2026 y cerrará el 2 de diciembre de 2025. 

Los estudiantes de último año (seniors) pueden solicitar todas las becas para las que sean elegibles completando una sola solicitud durante su clase de Senior Seminar. El enlace a la solicitud será proporcionado directamente por su consejero universitario. 

Familias: les animamos a conversar con sus hijos para asegurarse de que revisen los requisitos de las becas y presenten solicitudes bien redactadas y completas antes de la fecha límite. 

¡Estamos emocionados por conocer las historias y los planes futuros de cada estudiante!

EmpowerU

YES Prep organizará su primera conferencia de liderazgo, llamada EmpowerU, para estudiantes de 6.º a 8.º grado. 

Esta será una oportunidad para que los líderes en formación aprendan lo que se necesita para prepararse para la preparatoria, descubran al líder que llevan dentro, aprendan a usar sus habilidades de liderazgo para empoderar a otros y a comunicarse de manera efectiva. 

Las sesiones serán dirigidas por nuestros estudiantes de preparatoria que forman parte del Consejo Asesor Estudiantil del Distrito. El evento sera el Sábado, 13 de diciembre de 2025 de 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. en la escuela YES Prep Southside Secondary.

Los estudiantes interesados deben comunicarse con el chaperón de su escuela.
