Honoring History. Celebrating Growth. Moving Forward Together!
In February, we celebrate Black History Month! During this month, we take the time to honor the courage, brilliance, and contributions of Black leaders who have shaped our world. At HBE, we are celebrating their legacy by sharing diverse stories, highlighting important achievements, and helping our students see the power of perseverance, leadership, and vision in their own lives.

We are also celebrating our academic growth! Our latest i-Ready and MAP assessments show that students across grade levels are making exciting progress. Growth is happening because of the hard work happening every day in classrooms: teachers meeting students where they are, offering support, and encouraging every child to reach their full potential.
As we move through the third quarter of the school year, momentum is building! Students are growing in confidence, skills are accelerating, and the routines, relationships, and learning strategies established throughout the year are paying off.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your children’s learning at home and at school. Together, we are creating a strong, inspiring, and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
Let’s keep celebrating growth, honoring history, and moving forward together!
Best,
Ms. O

Let’s celebrate together! โ๐พ๐

Dear Families,
You are invited to participate in our Black History Month projects with your student! Students may choose to work independently or partner with a family member to complete their project.
All projects are due on February 23rd.
We look forward to seeing the creativity and learning your students will share. Thank you for your continued support!

We want to sincerely thank you for all of your support at home. I truly cannot say this enough — it takes a village to help our students grow and make progress.
The work you do at home, your consistency, your communication, and your encouragement make a bigger difference than you may realize. We simply cannot do this without you.
Thank you for being such an important part of your child’s success. ๐

Dear Families,
We are excited to share that our school has once again been selected to receive sponsorship from Young Audiences of Houston!
This continued partnership allows us to bring high-quality, creative arts experiences directly to our students. Through this sponsorship, students will have opportunities to engage in enriching programs that support creativity, confidence, collaboration, and self-expression.
I will be working closely with Young Audiences to select meaningful and engaging creative opportunities for our students this spring. We look forward to providing experiences that inspire and spark new interests across our campus.
Thank you for your continued support as we expand opportunities that help our students grow both academically and creatively.

I will complete Acanthosis Nigricans screening on 1st and 3rd graders. This will require me to do a quick check to look at the back of their neck. If the student is positive, I will pull them at later time and complete two blood pressure checks, height, and weight. Please read below for more information about the screening.
From the TRAT2DC | UTRGV:
The Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes in Children is a state-mandated program that helps assess children who may be at high risk to develop type 2 diabetes. This assessment is conducted by certified individuals in public and private schools during vision/hearing and scoliosis screenings. Children enrolled in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grades are assessed for high insulin levels. Children who are identified with the marker are also assessed for body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure. Risk assessments are issued to the parents of these children, alerting parents of the child's risk factors and encouraging further evaluation form a health professional.
The Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes in Children is an important program because it can help identify children who have these risk factors, all of which can increase the possibility for children to develop type 2 diabetes. Becoming aware of and understanding what the risk factors suggest can stimulate the changes necessary to prevent or delay future health problems for children who may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and/or other conditions.
