2024 STAAR Spring Testing for Grades 3-5

STAAR is the state's testing program and is based on state curriculum standards in core subjects. In elementary it includes Reading Language Arts and Mathematics for 3rd through 5th grade and Science for 5th grade only. STAAR tests are designed to measure what students are learning in each grade and whether they are ready for the next grade. Students will take their(s) on their YES Prep-issued laptop except for our students taking STAAR ALT.

Students determined to have a significant cognitive disability meet the state's participation requirements for STAAR Alternate 2. The test is designed to measure student learning according to academic curriculum and to inform the educational program for each individual student. The goal is to ensure that all students get what they need to be academically successful. The testing environment is adjusted to avoid distractions and arranged in ways that ensure each student's individual accommodation is available. If you want to learn more about STAAR ALT please visit All About the STAAR Alternate 2 Test

Our SPARKS will take their tests on the following dates:

  • April 17 | Grades 3-5: Reading Language Arts
  • April 24 | Grade 5: Science
  • May 1 | Grades 3-5: Mathematics
  • March 26-April 26 | Grades 3-5: STAAR ALT Window

How can I help my child get prepared for the test?

  1. Ensure they get to school on time and avoid picking them up early unless it is an emergency.
  2. Make sure they attend school every day.
  3. Have them practice the STAAR practice tests from TEA. They are free. Click here for the practice tests.
  4. Read daily with them and ask comprehension questions.
  5. Review any homework teachers send home for practice.
  6. Please make sure they get enough rest that night and that their laptop is fully charged before coming to school.
